Skywalker Hoolock Gibbon

Skywalker hoolock gibbon (Hoolock tianxing) is a species newly described in 2017.  It was named after Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars franchise. The name "tianxing" was a Chinese translation of "Skywalker" ; it also refers to the "heaven-like movement" of the gibbons. With less than 150 individuals left in the wild, IUCN has rated it as critically endangered (CR).
